Activities Promoting Wellness

Today is #GlobalWellnessDay and we wanted to highlight some of the great activities and events that take place at our managed estates that promote wellness for our residents, along with some great resources available to support everyone’s health and wellbeing.

Many of our Estate Managers help organise outings for their estates; residents in Hemel Hampstead recently visited the local Rex Cinema and Putt Shack where all had a great time.

Wherever you choose to retire to, there is often a lively social calendar, with a range of activities you can choose to take part in.

🌻 For those who enjoy gardening or want to start a new hobby, most of our estates have beautiful personal and communal gardens that are well-kept by those who look after them. We also have allotment enthusiasts within our community who love to spend time planting and growing a variety of plants and vegetables for both their and their neighbours enjoyment.

🧘‍♀️ At one of our Godalming estates, residents enjoy weekly chair exercise classes and 'crafternoon' sessions. While residents at another of our estates in Broadstairs host regular keep fit classes, with the help of the ‘move it or lose it’ DVD’s, enabling residents to keep active and social within the estates communal lounge.

🏃‍♂️ The free online NHS Fitness studio has a range of exercise videos available to help you keep fit and active - About our Fitness Studio videos - NHS (www.nhs.uk) and they also have some great resources to help build more activity into your day, tips to stick with it and free exercise plans to help you get going How to be more active - Better Health - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

🏸 Age UK also promote a range of exercise and physical activity classes, visit their website to see a list of what types of classes are available across England – and always check with your local Age UK to see what’s available in your area Exercise and keep fit classes for seniors | Age UK

🚌 One of our managed estates organises regular minibus excursions for residents so they can get out and about in the local area and enjoy a new experience, some of their excursions have been to Windsor castle, local shopping centres, gardens and farm shops.

🎨 Several of our estates also hosted art exhibitions in May to celebrate the work of talented residents

We always look for ways to give our residents access to a range of activities, whether this is through on-site event committees or through ELM Group partnerships. We have previously partnered with organisations like Mirthy - a digital platform offering a range of events including everything from cookery, walking and Tai Chi clubs to jazz, painting, pilates and seated yoga.
