Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Glenwood Court

Residents, friends and family members joined us as we marked one of our earliest retirement estates turning 50.

Last week, one of our retirement estates Glenwood Court, based in Sidcup, Kent, celebrated its 50th anniversary, and it was certainly one to remember.

As one of our earliest retirement estates, first opening in 1974, we wanted to formally mark the occasion by bringing residents together for a special celebration. After offering residents the choice of how they would like to celebrate, it was decided to have a tea party with a live singer, and what a fabulous afternoon it turned out to be.

Residents from the building’s 20 flats joined us in the communal lounge and gardens to enjoy sandwiches, plenty of bubbles and a specially crafted cake to mark the anniversary. Local singer Charlie Carter provided an incredible set of nostalgic tunes in the gazebo for the afternoon with many hitting the ‘dance floor’ well into the afternoon.

Glenwood Court was first opened by RLHA in 1974 as part of a brand-new concept of independent retirement living for those who valued owning their own property and saw the benefit of a purpose-built estate with an onsite Estate Manager. Today, it continues to provide a supportive community for retired residents who’ve opted to live there and enjoy an independent way of life alongside likeminded people.

It was clear to see how much our estate manager Kim is valued by many of the residents onsite and that she’s contributed a great deal to creating such a positive and friendly environment for the residents, alongside our area manager Corina, who delivered a moving speech and was in charge of cutting the cake.

A specially made memory board was on display with photographs of past residents who were unable to join us but will always be remembered fondly by Kim and everyone in the Glenwood Court community.

We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating this special milestone with our residents and members of our head office team – it was truly special to commemorate the opening of this property and seeing what a continued success it is to this day with such a vibrant community of residents.

Here’s to the next 50 years!
